Lhasa Tour - Potala

This tour drives overland from Kathmandu to Lhasa across the Himalayas by way of the incredible Arniko Highway that connects Nepal with Tibet. Enjoy fabulous mountain scenery enrooted, visit mystical Buddhist monasteries of Tashilungpo at Shigatse, the Kumbum Stupa at Gyantse, and drive past the beautiful Turquoise lake. In Lhasa visit the famous Potala and Norbulinkha palaces, the great Drepung Monastery and walk through the bustling Barkor Bazaar before flying back to Kathmandu (or onward to China). Short Description of Potala Palace:

The Potala Palace is located in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region, of China. It was named after Mount Potala. The Potala Palace has been converted into a museum by the Chinese government. The building measures 400 metres east-west and 350 metres north-south, with sloping stone walls averaging 3 m. thick, and 5 m. (more than 16 ft) thick at the base, and with copper poured into the foundations to help proof it against earthquakes. Thirteen stories of buildings – containing over 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and about 200,000 statues – soar 117 metres (384 ft) on top of Marpo Ri, the "Red Hill", rising more than 300 m (about 1,000 ft) in total above the valley floor.

Itinerary for Lhasa Tibet Tour
Day 01 Drive from Kahmandu to Zhangmu
  Drive from Kathmandu to Tibet Border. Cross Friendship Bridge into Tibet and meet Tibet Guide. Drive to Zhangmu or continue to Nyalam and overnight at hotel  
Day 02 Drive from Nyalam to Tingri
  Drive to Tingri crossing Nyalamu pass 3800m. & Lalung La Pass 5050m. This drive offers fantastic view of the high mountains including Everest (8848m.) at a Tingri overnight at hotel
Day 03 Drive from Tingri to Shigatse
  Drive Approx 8hrs to shigatse. Shigatse has the famous Tashilunpo Monastery and the seat of Panchen Lama and overnight at hotel
Day 04 Drive from Shigatse to Gyantse
  In the morning visit Tashilunpo Monastery and the free market of Shigatse. In the afternoon drive to Gyantse and visit Phalkor Monastery and Khumbum Stupa and overnight at hotel
Day 05 Drive from Gyantse to Lhasa
  The drive to Lhasa takes 08 hours, crossing two passes - The Karola 5010m and Kamaba La 4794m via Yamdrok Tso Lake and overnight at hotel in Lhasa
Day 06 Rest day at Lhasa for Sightseeing
  Guided sightseeing tour of Potala, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama; Drepung, the biggest monastic university of Tibet & Nechung Monastery, temple of the State oracle of Tibet and overnight at hotel in Lhasa
Day 07 Rest day at Lhasa for Sightseeing
  Guided sightseeing tour of Jokhang, the central cathedral of Tibet, Barkhor, the bustling Lhasa market encircling the Jokhang Temple, Tibetan Medical Center & Norbulinka Palace and overnight at hotel in Lhasa
Day 08 Flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu
  Transfer to hotel in Kathmandu
