Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek has been described as the ideal trekking trials in the eastern part of Nepal, opened in 1988 for trekkers. This is trek is for those; who have enough time and desire to venture into the remote areas. Its route is long but rewarding, which follows deeply into the remote mountain ranges on Nepal’s border and Sikkim (India) in the North. The trek explores the area around Kanchenjunga which is the 3rd highest mountain in the world at 8,598m/28,169 feet and the 2nd highest mountain in Nepal after Mt. Everest 8848m. Besides this main peak, there are four subsidiary mountains all over 8000m and more than fifteen peaks over 6,000m to the surrounding. Trek to Kanchenjunga has a wide range of scenery lush, tropical jungle through Rhododendron (national flower of Nepal), chestnut and oak forests to the alpine zone. This area is also well known for home to the Red Panda and other snow animals, birds and plants. On this trip, you will see the culture and life-style of the Rai and Limbu communities and the Tibetan villages at higher elevations. And, this trek area is protecting by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Project run by the World Wildlife Fund, in association with the Nepal Mountaineering Association and NG (Nepal Government) in Nepal. We fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar and transfer to Basantapur on the same day. The trek begins; with our first camp at Chauki then trek through Gyabla and ascend to the higher camp at Pang Pema (5120m) and camp at Lhonak. The trek concludes at Suketar via the descent from Omje Khola, from where we fly back to Kathmandu. |
