The White Mountain in Sanskrit is the name of Mt. Dhaulagiri first climbed by the Swiss in 1960. The pundits mapped this summit in 1873 but the region remained largely unknown until a Swiss aerial survey in 1949. The French group in 1950 had permission to climb Annapurna after a reconnaissance of Dhaulagiri. Argentine group climb this summit one year later after the failure of the Swiss party in the year 1953. Attempting four times fail to reach the summit the eight numbers of Swiss expeditions able to reach the summit in 1960. the route was chosen from the Tukuche over Dampus pass with the help of Swiss Pilatus porter aircraft which landed on the North east col at 5977 a French Col approach the summit from the north east Col when the expedition was near to be ended the plane crashed near Dampus pass but the crew member including the eminent Mr. Emil wick walked down the mountain to Tukuche.
It was a tragic situation when in 1969 seven members of us expedition was killed on the east Dhaulagiri glacier. This summit was conquered by the Japanese in 1976, Americans in 1973 and by the Italians in 1976. Capt. Emil Wick use to provide the bottles of wine and live chicken to the expedition from a Pilatus porter aircraft. The Sherpa with their religion won’t allow then to kill the chicken so, it was carried snow blind and clipped with frost bitten feet to Marpha where the chicken was killed and eaten.
The seventh highest mountain in the world has enormous Himalayan massif located in north Nepal when it was discovered by the westerns in 1808 it replaced Ecuador’s Chimborazo (2056ft). Unknowingly it was counted as the highest mountain in the before the discovery of Mt. Kanchenjunga later which was then falsely believed to be the world’s highest mountain. The crest of Dhaulagiri spread for thirty miles with targeted geography of twisting ridges, glaciers, and ice falls. Other several pyramid shaped peaks rise in spite to the main crest. Four of these summits numbering east to west rise 25,000 above.
